פרופ’ יגאל רונן מהפוקלטה להנדסה גרעינית באוניברסיטת בן גוריון הצליח להפוך זאת לדבר חיובי. העיתון The jerusalem post , מדווח שפרופ’ יגאל רונן גילה כי היסוד הסינטטי “אמריציום” (americium) יכול לשלול מפלוטוניום את התכונות המאפשרות לו לשמש כמרכיב לפצצה גרעינית.

במאמר שהתפרסם היום ב”הארץ” נטען כי ארצות הברית מתכוונת להציע לישראל מטריית הגנה גרעינית. פרוש הדבר שארצות הברית מאיימת בתגובה גרעינית כנגד התקפה גרעינית מצד אירן על ישראל. כותבי המאמר מצטטים בכיר בממשל בוש שטוען (בצדק) כי האיום האמריקאי אינו אמין.
